They stole all my stock that i was taking to the Birmingham fair this morning.

I am too too overcome to give a list now – but it was many thousands of pounds cost. I will send you an itemised list in the next few days – but here, for now. are few pieces will stand out.

Just a quick email to inform other dealers that we were burgled on 04 November, all of our stock was stolen and our premises was badly damaged.

I am reaching out to ask if you could keep an eye open for anyone offering our stolen stock for sale or to let me know if you are offered any of the items stolen, the list is too extensive to attach in its entirety but a brief run down is below:

Several thousand single coins, mainly bronze, nickel and silver in 2x2 clear plastic packets, each would be hand written with a stock code starting with SC (IE: SC12345), these include British & World Coins and range from Roman to modern circulating Decimal Issues.
Around 200 coins in capsules, mainly silver 1oz rounds and gold plated commonwealth coins and Westminster tokens etc, in clear front bags labelled with codes starting with OS
3kg of Bulk 50% Silver coins (1920-46) in 1KG bags, labelled as codes starting EB
Around 400 banknotes, again in clear front bags with codes starting BKN
A quantity of unlabelled and labelled stock, including an uncut sheet of 6 Kentfield £5 Banknotes (Serial: BH28001493 to BH36001493), 1 5oz Silver Britannia & 5oz Silver Canadian Maple Ingot, Royal Mint proof sets and coins & some stamp collections and stamp kiloware likely in clear plastic tubs or plastic boxes, some of these will be labelled with codes starting EB.
Most items aside from the single coins will be in clear front bags or grey plastic mailing sacks. Most would be labelled with stock codes listed above (EB, BKN or SC etc)

I know it may be difficult to assess what might be included there but if you are offered anything suspicious please contact me or Kent Police quoting reference 04-0254.

A lady reported the theft of a bigger part of her grandfather's coin collection, which was stolen from her father's unoccupied house earlier this month. The coins range from probably from 1876 to 1968, mainly British, but a few coins might be from Europe.  There is no amount mentioned, just that it is a big box.

The Crime reference no is 40/3521/22. Contact is Cime Bureau Kelly-Smith 8969.

The following coins went missing after the London Coin Fair 3rd July:

The coins were in an old cotton coin bag, offering £1 reward. Inside the bag there was a rigid, lidded leather box, black with white lining. There were a number of low grade hammered silver. James I, Edward VI, worn out Mary groat & small sundries including a commonwealth half groat. The basic lists reads as follows: 1. Sovereign, young head shield back 1879 s. 2.Guinea George III spade 1794. 3. 1/2 Guinea George III 1793. 4. 1/3 Guinea George III 1806. 5. Sovereign George V. 6 Soevereign Victoria old girl. 7. 1/2 Sovereign Victoria younh shield 1878. 8. Ormonde Crown. Crowned CR dentils and an inner ring. Obv. large Roman 'V' with a smaller 's' above indicating the denomination. Almost 30g, roughly cut from plate, weakly struck, but barely seen circulation and nicely toned.

A set of Maundy Coins from 2019  is believed to be stolen by a workman about 3 weeks ago in Dufftown, Scotland from an elderly gentleman.

The set consists of 93 coins in two leather bags, one red and one white. Some of the coins were in plastic wallets - 9 wallets with 4 coins in each 1p, 2p, 3p and 4p; 1 wallet with a 3p coin, and two other coins 50p anf £5 marking the bicentenary if Queen Victoria 1819.

Bill Pugsley has been advised that a significant collection of very valuable and historically important coins have be stolen from a privat collection in Dublin this week.

The collection includes an almost complete datew run of Sovereigns from 1817 to 1968 (only 1819 missing). There are twp 1841 Sovereigns of which one is uncirculated or near so.

Additionally, there are stunning Guineas, two Guinea and five Guinea pieces that are also missing.

This looks like a targeted robbery BUT it may have been untargeted in which case the coins may have been offered merely for melting - which would be a disaster for numismatics.

Large Coldstream Guards Silver Cap Star worn on Officers Forage Cap. No name. This is the same red felt as the medals mounted on a medal bar.Miniature versions of the medals were also taken which were mounted on a bar which would be affixed to a jacket.

WW1 medals known as "PIPSQUEAK & WILFRED" engraved with the South Lancashire Regiment and the name FRANK JERVIS.

These items have been stolen from a burglary in an area of Nantwich, Cheshire which occurred some time between 21.09.17 and 23.09.17.

The collection spoanned the whole period and included most key coins including an excellent run of Mary and James V including many gold issues. The understanding is that the coins have probably been taken out of the counrty to Europe. Two items were stolen during a dwelling burglay which occurred on January 31st 2017 in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The victim was injured during the event and unfortunately died 11 days later.

Hong Kong Police long service medal. On one side of the medal it has a picture of the Queen. On the reverse side is the name LEUNG and her rank and police shoulder number - WPC 15037.

The second item is  a Rolex ouster perpetual Datejust watch, model no. 68274, serial no.8216199.

A burglary occurred  in Downham Market, Norfolk at the beginning of February.  A large collection of coins were stolen - almost all of the hammered shillings and groats that were numbered  by Spink (or old Seaby)  from Edward 1st to Charles 2nd.

On Sunday April 24, 2016 two Idaho dealers on their way home from the Tukwila, WA coin show were victims of a vehicle burglary when they stopped approximately 30 mins after leaving the show. The suspects used an unkown type of instrument to open the driver's door giving them access to three plastic totes and a large wooden briefcase containing over $100,000 in coins and cash. Two vehicles were used during the offense which were described as a new Chevrolet Equinox with California plates and possibly a older Subaru with Washington plates. The only description of the suspects was that one was a white male.

A comprehensive and specialized 19th Century political campaign medal and token collection has been stolen in Louisville, Kentucky. Included in the theft is approximately 60 slabbed items from the John Ford collection and 100 pieces of Bryan Money, including both common and extremely rare and in some cases unique varieties.

The theft of a hoard of fourteen  late Roman gold coins from display from Chelmsford Museum during opening hours has been discovered this morning.  Although the display case was not covered by CCTV, the case was alarmed and secured with special security screws.  The alarm does not appear to have been activated, but the perpetrator  had probably researched the situation in advance, and came armed with the necessary screwdriver in the knowledge that no CCTV camera was trained on the case.

The coins were discovered in the 1990s  near Good Easter by a metal detectorist and acquired by Chelmsford Museum.   The coins were issued by the emperors Arcadius and Honorius, and  minted in Milan and Ravenna in Italy, between   AD 394 and 406. One rarer coin,  however, depicts Constantine III, the last emperor whose coins are found in Roman  Britain,  and which was minted in Lyons, France  in AD 407-8.

The Police, the National Security Adviser at Arts Council England,  and other Museums have been notified.

It has recently come to our attention that a group of silver pennies of Alfred the Great and Ceolwulf II have appeared on the market.  The coins, we are informed consist of the lozenges types and the two Emperor/two figure types, some unpublished and unknown and many of extreme rarity.   They are believed to be from an undeclared hoard of treasure found along with some jewellery along the Welsh marches.  Some of our members have seen/been offered these items, but to our knowledge no BNTA dealer has purchased any.  We are aware that the British Museum has prompted a Police enquiry which is ongoing and we had been waiting for further information before making this announcement.

The Police have not been forthcoming with any advices so we have taken it upon ourselves to issue this warning.   Please use the utmost caution when buying any items that may be related to this alleged hoard - buying such coins will be regarded as concealment  of "Treasure"  under the Treasure Act and subsequently will be dealt with as if "handling stolen property".

Should you feel you have any information we will be pleased to put you in touch with the British Museum or the local Police handling the case.

We have to report two items stolen in transit from the UK to the US. The package was sent by Signed and Tracked mail and was opened and re-sealed. Inside was another envelope which contained a 20 pence piece instead. The recipient in the US has filed a complaint against the postal authorities. We shall obviously have to claim on our insurance for the loss.

We are investigating the theft of a large quantity of sovereigns, half-sovereigns & krugerands that were stolen from a residential address in West Wiltshire at the beginning of September 2014, whilst these themselves are not identifiable or unique, they were stolen alongside a 1480-83 Angel London type, mint mark 31 Heraldic cinquefoil coin which has a hairline fracture.

Please could you highlight this theft on your BNTA website & if anyone with information or who may have come across someone attempting to sell large quantity of such coins (identifiable through this rare Angel coin).

A burglary occurred in Chelmsley Wood, West Midlands on 23/10/14. The only item stolen was a distinctive coin set. This is detailed as a "Heraldic beasts pure silver crown set". There are 4 coins in total, they have different animals on each, these being a lion, unicorn, dragon and stag. The offender(s) did not take the certificate of authenticity.

This iconic South African coin was stolen, together with the safe which it was in, whilst my wife and I were away on holiday last week. It's been in the family for well over a hundred years so as well as being valuable also has great sentimental value.

Subject: Five (5) Cyprus rare coins have been stolen

1.  We would like to refer to the above mentioned subject in order to inform you that five (5) rare Cyprus coins and 40 other scarce world coins have been stolen during the shipment from Greece-Athens to PCGS located in Paris, between the dates 22nd – 24th of May 2014.

2.  Our company, «Cointime Ltd», bought the five (5) rare Cyprus coins from Baldwin’s auction 6/86 which was held on the 6th of May 2014 in London. («Ex. Arielle Collection» Lot 166, Lot 188 and Lot 218).

3.  The rare Cyprus coins are the following:

a.  Cyprus ¼ Piastre 1880 of Queen Victoria. This coin looks like Proof but we believe that it would have been graded as MS65BN PL according the USA standards or Brown Uncirculated (Prooflike) according to the UK standards. The coin has a mirror surface and brown color both sides which makes it looks proof but we believe it is an early strike.

b.  Cyprus ½ Piastre 1908 of King Edward VII. We believe that this coin would have been graded as MS63BN or MS64BN according to the USA standards or Brown Uncirculated according to the UK standards. This coin has some red luster on reverse and light brown color both sides. This is the weakly struck variety (King’s portrait on obverse and the line from ½ on reverse are weakly stuck).

c.  Cyprus Proof set of 3 silver coins dated 1921 of King George V. The coins are 4 ½ Piastres, 9 Piastres and 18 Piastres all dated 1921. These coins have dark grey and blue patina and we believe that they would have been graded as follows: 18 Piastres PF64-65, 9 Piastres PF64-65 and 4 ½ Piastres PF63-64. The 4 ½ Piastres has a few light hairlines from an old cleaning which are under the deep grey and purple patina. All coins have a matching dark grey and blue toning except the 4 ½ Piastres which has also a light purple color mixed with grey.

4. The above 5 coins as well as many other gold, silver, copper and nickel world coins, had been sent to PCGS Paris, via Fedex, through a Greek coin dealer located in Athens. Once the package was received and opened under a camera at PCGS Paris, it had been found that 45 coins as well as the 3 submission forms were missing from the package. After investigation by authorities in Athens and also by the members of staff at

PCGS in Paris, the coins had never been found. All suspicions seem to show that the coins were either stolen during the shipment or before the shipment in Athens. Unfortunately we are unable to solve this mystery but we believe that the rarity and the quality of these coins make them unique. We believe that it would be easy for us to identify them, even if these coins have been tampered with (altered color of different patina). It is very wired that they didn’t steel the gold coins included in the package which were more than 30.

5. The other stolen coins were 20 Gem Uncirculated Malaya & British Borneo 20 Cents 1961 of Queen Elizabeth II (MS65-MS67) belong to our company, which have been purchased from Ebay and 20 modern Greek coins from King Paul I and King Constantine II of which we have been informed that belong to other collectors/coin dealers from Greece.

6.  We would appreciate all Numismatic Associations, Numismatic Societies, Coin Dealers, Auction Houses, Coin Forums and Coin Collectors to please keep an eye out for these coins and if you do come across this, please report it to the police and contact us immediately.

7.  We would like to send you the pictures of the five (5) rare Cyprus stolen coins herewith but what no possible.

The item was then despatched and received which we have had notification of however we have now had a chargeback from Worldpay indicating that the transaction was never authorised. At time of ordering the credit card was run through the terminal and then authorised as per usual with no problems as far as we were concerned. A Salut D'or of Henry VI which was stolen sometime after 20th March in Brussels from the mail.

Its precise details are:-

Henry VI Salut d'or, E270c in VF condition, ex-the Reigate Brokes Road Hoard 1990, and originally sold at the Glendinning Auction of 8 December 1992, Lot 121.

All details are on the attached printout from the DNW Auction of 12 December 2005, lot 955.

I hope that the thief may slip-up and try and sell it in France, Belgium or the Netherlands which may lead to one of your members spotting the coin.  It is not too bright, having a deep gold toning.

A robbery took place at the Midland Coin Fair on Sunday 9th Feb. Two men in a car, probably stolen, stopped by the vehicle of dealer Ian Murray, one man got out, smashed the rear window with a hammer and took a briefcase that had just been placed there. This was in full view of about a dozen people, some only 10 yards away and took less than 10 seconds. The car then drove off into the motorway network. A spreadsheet of the stock is attached. I am still waiting for a crime number from the police and a contact person but if anyone should have any information please contact Mike Veissid until these details are available.

A Salut D'or of Henry VI was stolen sometime after 20th March in Brussels from the mail.

Its precise details are:-

Henry VI Salut d'or, E270c in VF condition, ex-the Reigate Brokes Road Hoard 1990, and originally sold at the Glendinning Auction of 8 December 1992, Lot 121.

All details are on the attached printout from the DNW Auction of 12 December 2005, lot 955.

I hope that the thief may slip-up and try and sell it in France, Belgium or the Netherlands which may lead to one of your members spotting the coin.  It is not too bright, having a deep gold toning.

‘25 x 1 ounce African Krugerands were stolen during a dwelling burglary in Dorset on Saturday 11^th January 2014. The victim believes he purchased these coins in the 60’s or 70’s, all together for £49 each. All are described as mint condition.

An Edward III (1361AD) Transitional Period Gold Half Noble (Spink 1500, North 1223) was stolen from the London Coin Fair on Saturday 7 September 2013. The coin was snatched from the tray while a client was looking at them. It has since come to light that two other dealers spotted the thief in question and went to apprehend them however they disappeared into the crowd before they could be stopped and questioned. The suspect is known to one of the dealers as a know thief and details have been forwarded to the police.

Bromley police investigated the incident and arrested a 41-year old woman last Wednesday 5 February. A 38-year old main from Croydon was also arrested last Thursday. They were both chrged on suspicion of handling stolen goods and possession of cannabis and remain in custody.

A further suspect aged 43, was arrested last Friday in connection with this investigation. All three have been bailed until March 11

The tokens are mostly local issues of Derby and Derbyshire, predominantly from the 17th and 18th century. The collection of around 150 17th century trade tokens naming business in the county may be more easily identifiable than the national issue coins as these are much rarer.

The medals are mostly of 18th and 19th century date and include issues commemorating local and national events and personalities. Most of these are generic and would be difficult to positively identify. There are, however, some named awards medals, such as school prizes and Great Exhibition awards, which could be identified. There are no military medals amongst the stolen items.

The pocket watches include some rare and unusual items which may well be easier to positively identify if they come to light. These include 3 18th century watches attributed to John Whitehurst (a local maker and important figure of the Enlightenment) and a further 15 or so watches of 18th or 19th century date, in gold and silver. In total around 40 watches and watch movements are missing.

Llywelyn was last seen alive by his son Richard who left the property at around 7pm. At 8.50pm Llywelyn received a telephone call from a friend. That call ended at 9.24pm. Detectives think two or more intruders arrived at the property sometime after that phone call ended.

The house is located on the A10 and is difficult to reach on foot. Police believe the intruders may have arrived by car then blagged their way into the house. Llywelyn was subjected to a violent assault and suffered significant head injuries. He was beaten around the head with a blunt instrument, such as a poker or a crowbar. The murder weapon has not yet been found.

Several items were stolen from the property, including three watches and a collection of coins.

The coin collection was the victim’s son’s own collection from childhood and although not particularly valuable there are some distinctive coins as follows:

A 1668 Robert Brooke halfpenny. This has initials RB on one side and on the other side “his halfpenny”. Richard states that there are probably no more than 20 of such coins per year that come available. There was also a Kennedy half dollar and a Churchill silver crown.

The coins were kept in transparent leaves in a landscape shaped burgundy coloured vinyl ring binder, . The folder was then kept in a burgundy open ended sleeve. Depending on the size of the coins there would have been possibly 10 per transparent page.

Richard would say there were less than 100 coins in total but more than 40/50. Many of the coins were old sterling.

Police would ask that collectors keep a look out for any of these items and in particular if they are presented together.

The motive in the robbery was a gold coin collection valued at $500,000. The owner of the collection identified as Robert Marchand was a collector and well known businessman in Gonzales, Louisiana.

The brutal slayings probably occurred between 12am and 10am Saturday, February 18,2012. No list is available at this time but will be sent out immediately once I receive it from investigators.

Dealers should be on the look out for any person or persons bringing in a large amount of gold coins to sale or any unusual or suspicious phone calls related to gold coins. Preliminary information is that these coins were mostly numismatic coins not bullion.

On 29th of March I sent a package from Norway (post office) adressed to myself at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile. The package was last tracked on the 5th of April having arived at the transit office in Amsterdam.

I have raised the matter with the Norwwegian post office and they believe there is still a chance the package will arrive.

All together about 50 Chinese dollars, some from the Szechuan Province, Y.456, Chinese Republic, Y.318a.1, Y..329.6 and Y.345.

There were also about 50 British trade dollars, KM#T5, a few coins from the conservation series, 4 Chinese knife money,  Tiger tounges in silver and 3 silver lat money, please see scans. There was also 100 pc of Burma 500-700 AD, Drumaru/Temple weight 0.08-0,15 grams and Cambodia kingdom, 100 pc in silver and bronce (giltet), KM# 32.2, about 1,45 to 1.7 grams , uniface  Hamza bird, 1847.

There was also Sovjet mint sets in yellow package from 1977, 1978 and 1979.

Further to the information provided under Coins Stolen at Berlin World Money Fair, I am pleased to say that some of these coins have been recovered in Paris. Two Colombian men are in jail in France for receiving stolen property, international conspiracy and false identity. After their sojourn in a French jail they will be extradited to Germany to face further charges of false identity and theft. The recovery was possible thanks to the courage of numismatic dealer Claude Burgan who was offered these coins by the criminals who are now in jail.
